The McKendree Park HOA Board of Directors would like to remind homeowners of several Deed Restriction concerns which have stood out during recent community inspections:
Parking
We have observed an increase in parking violations around the neighborhood. Vehicles may not be parked facing the wrong way on the street as this creates a safety hazard. Parking in driveways in a way that obstructs the sidewalk is also prohibited. Blocking the sidewalk leaves pedestrians with no option but to walk in the roadway, which creates a safety hazard especially around the sharp turns throughout the neighborhood. Blocking the sidewalk can also cause access issues for wheelchair users.
We would like to remind homeowners that obstructing the sidewalk is a violation of the McKendree Park Deed Restrictions (Article VI, Section C) as well as State Law (Transportation Code 545.302). Vehicles that obstruct the sidewalk are subject to being fined by McKendree Park and ticketed by law enforcement. These rules will be strictly enforced both by the McKendree Park HOA as well as by our Constable’s deputies.
Lawn Care & Exterior Maintenance
We would like to remind homeowners about the importance of lawn care and exterior home maintenance. Lawns must be maintained regularly and trees should be trimmed throughout the year as needed. We recommend that sprinkler systems be checked and serviced prior to the summer season. Many sprinkler backflow preventers failed and sprinkler heads cracked during our hard freeze in January, which can cause flooding and water waste if the problem is not addressed. Fences around the community are starting to show their age as well. We ask that homeowners take action to replace broken fence pickets and gate doors as needed. We appreciate all homeowners’ efforts to help keep our property values high.
Safety
The Board of Directors works closely with the Harris County Constable’s Office to ensure that McKendree Park remains a safe place to live and play. Homeowners can help with this by reporting any suspicious activity to the deputies by calling 281-463-6666. Homeowners are also encouraged to install dusk-to-dawn lighting. Many automatic light timers are available for under $35 which can be used to light the exterior of your home during certain hours. A well-lit community is a safe community!
Littering
Unfortunately, we have noticed an increase in littering around the community. Candy wrappers, drink bottles, and household garbage have been discarded around sidewalks and common areas. Litter can be swept away by rainwater, which can cause drainage issues and flooding during heavy rain. We are working with Horsepen Bayou MUD to have trash cans installed around the exercise track to help with this. Please help us keep McKendree Park beautiful by collecting any garbage you see while walking through the community.
Trash Days
Trash is picked up every Monday and Thursday. We would like to remind homeowners that trash may only be placed outside for collection the evening before collection day. Trash cans must be removed from sight the same evening of collection. Storing trash cans against garages or outside fences is not acceptable – all trash cans must be stored completely out of view, either behind your fence or inside your garage.
We have also observed several homes in the community placing trash out on Sunday for Monday’s collection. This must be avoided as placing trash out early creates an unsightly appearance for homeowners who may have visitors on Sunday. We ask that all homeowners observe this rule as it will be strictly enforced.
The Board of Directors thanks everyone in advance for their cooperation and understanding as we work hard to make McKendree Park a great place to live.
